ABOUT SHANE

Shane, a native of Ireland, graduated from Dublin City University, with a first class honours degree in Athletic Therapy and Training. He then completed a masters degree in physiotherapy from University College Dublin. He has a special interest in concussion rehabilitation and is an ImPACT trained Physiotherapist. 

 

Shane is an ex professional soccer player in the UK and Ireland (clubs including Coventry City, Shamrock Rovers, Longford Town and Cabinteely) as well as an Ireland International from under 15 to under 19 level.

 

Shane has completed research in injury prevention in rugby union, focused in the area of concussion, balance, neck strengthening and wearable sensors.

 

His research focused on a balance test found to be associated with increased concussion risk, and the effects of an injury prevention programme including neck strengthening and balance exercises shown to reduce concussion risk. His research then examined the acute effects of the injury prevention programme on the balance test.

 

He has also worked as physiotherapist with a number of different sports with both elite and club athletes, including AFL, cricket, rugby, Gaelic football, hurling, golf and soccer.
